If you were in an automobile accident, there are certain steps you should take. The first thing you should do is stay calm.

After the accident itself, make sure everyone is OK, safe and determine if there are any injuries or whether anyone needs medical attention.

After that point, you are also going to want to speak to the police office at the scene of the automobile accident to provide a statement as to how the accident occurred. And if for some reason the police officer doesn’t want to take your statement, you also have the right to provide a statement at the police station later on regarding how the accident happened.

You want to also make sure that the police report is accurate and contains information that you provided to the police officers. If for any reason the police report is not accurate, you want to make sure that you supplement the report and provide additional information regarding how the accident happened.

After that point, you want to get a copy of the police report, and report the accident to your own automobile insurance company.
